The picture that you see in the sidebar (top) is of my cousin Sarah and I. I spent Christmas day at my aunt and uncle’s house. My cousin is 20 years old and I realized that we didn’t have a picture of us together. Not one.
Her boyfriend/fiance’ snapped the picture.
That’s one photo of us together doing stuff. I hope there are many more.
Sarah and Jaymin proceeded to play around with Photo Booth on my MacBook Pro and this is a sample. Good stuff.

She will be missed.

Andrew Freedman, Eartha Kitt’s spokesman, has told BNO News that the singer and actress passed away earlier this Christmas Day.
Kitt was best known for her role as Catwoman in the 1960s TV series Batman and for her 1953 Christmas song “Santa Baby”.
Kitt passed away at around 2.35 pm Eastern time this afternoon. Freedman said she had been suffering from colon cancer. Her daughter, Kitt Shapiro, was at her side at the time she died.
May everyone have a blessed day.
I haven’t blogged anything since Monday.
Bad. Bad. Mike

Found this article in the New York Daily News this morning…
A suspicious fire has torn through the church attended by Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who apologized if the blaze was related to her White House run.
Palin, Republican John McCain’s running mate, was not at the church during the Friday night fire that caused about $1 million damage.
A small group of women and children were in the Wasilla Bible Church doing crafts when the blaze was set at the building’s entrance. The group escaped when a fire alarm sounded, Pastor Larry Kroon said.
Palin spokesman Bill McAllister said the governor visited Saturday and “told an assistant pastor that she apologizes if the incident is in any way connected to the undeserved negative attention the church has received since she became a vice presidential candidate on Aug. 29.”
The church draws as many as 1,000 worshipers on a Sunday.
I would hate to think that people are so bitter over an election that probably ended up the way they wanted it to that they think they would need to burn down a church of God to send a message.
Today was not a great day for news where my friends are concerned.
One of my friends is having “relationship” related issues while another friend is facing grave charges that I feel are absolutely false and unsubstantiated.
Tonight. I will pray for my friends.
I don’t hang out with bad people. When I hear about problems that my friends are having I am forever reminded of what a high class of people they truly are. They don’t deserve the hardships they face.
Keep your heads up!
It will get better.

from BusinessWeek…
The U.S. faces a cybersecurity threat of such magnitude that the next President should move quickly to create a Center for Cybersecurity Operations and appoint a special White House advisor to oversee it. Those are among the recommendations in a 44-page report by the U.S. Commission on Cybersecurity, a version of which will be made public today. The bipartisan panel includes executives, high-ranking military officers and intelligence officials, leading specialists in computer security, and two members of Congress.
The answer for any type of new problem as far as a liberal is concerned is BIGGER government. If the private sector is cutting jobs don’t worry. The Feds will just create more new government jobs.
Problem solved. Not.
I just changed the theme. It’s Japan-esk. I like it.
I was looking around the web today and found it quite by accident.
I think I’ll leave it up for a while.
I’m working on writing code for a brand new website for my aunt and uncle’s church.
It’s a big project. I suffer from the pretense that a church website HAS to be better than most other websites out there. I’ve thought about it a bit more and realize that I’m approaching this from the wrong angle.
Because it’s a foursquare church website. Because it’s my aunt and uncle’s church. Of course, it’s going to be a great website.
Silly programmer.
It’s true.
At least, as far as I know it’s true.
Last Sunday I was eating breakfast with my folks inside Wal-Mart at the McDonald’s literally minutes before church was supposed to begin.
The phone rang. It was work asking me to come in.
Maybe this Sunday I’ll actually make it to church.
Amen.
Update: The phone NEVER rang and I did make it in to church. The only problem was that I had so much to do that going back to work on Monday will seem like a vacation. Sheesh!
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
Personally, I didn’t think my aunt and uncle could fit that many people in their house. They did.
Praise the Lord!

If anyone is wondering why I post Apple updates well, I post them because I own an Apple.

Hopefully, they’ve turned off the “you are not listening to this podcast enough so we’ll stop downloading it” option. I never liked that option.
Update: No, Apple did NOT turn off that option.
Sleep. Get Up. Work. Repeat.
Stuck at home today. Taking medication and hoping that it clears my congestion away.
It’s hard to do the job I have without being able to walk around. The congestion is making that task amazingly hard and difficult.
Hopefully, I’ll be up and around tomorrow morning. In the meantime…
…let’s catch up on blogging, shall we?

Yet another update.

One of my favorite authors has passed.

from The Chicago Tribune…
LOS ANGELES – Michael Crichton, the doctor-turned-author of bestselling thrillers such as “The Terminal Man” and “Jurassic Park” and a Hollywood writer and director whose credits include “Westworld” and “Coma,” has died. He was 66.
Crichton died in Los Angeles on Tuesday “after a courageous and private battle against cancer,” his family said in a statement.
For nearly four decades, the 6-foot-9 writer was a towering presence in the worlds of publishing and filmmaking.
“There was no one like Crichton, because he could both entertain and educate,” Lynn Nesbit, Crichton’s agent since the late ’60s, told the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday. “His brilliance was indisputable, and he had a grasp of so many subjects — from art to science to technology.
He will be missed.
I’ve been sitting at my desk in Hershey PA watching friends and co-workers getting laid off due to the slow economic conditions and due to the fact that Hershey Gifts isn’t really selling as much as they’d like to.
I’ve been wondering when it was going to be my turn to get laid off. This afternoon, the radio squawked as my boss asked me to join him in his office. I expected really bad news. It didn’t come.
I got really good news instead.
My boss requested that I be transfered to our corporate headquarters. It’s a step up and I am still a little taken back by it. In a move to keep key personnel, my company has decided to move people around rather than to remove them. It is a part of their core beliefs and philosophy.
I’ll be moving from the Hershey location to a brand new office building in Lancaster, PA. (Amish Country)
This is nothing more than a complete blessing to me and my family.
This election night, I really do know what I am thankful for.
Update (11-05-08): Obama winning the Presidential election…not so much of a blessing.
I went to leave work today and the unexpected happened…
…car trouble. My car sounded and felt like I was missing a few cylinders.
The frustration.
The “I’m not sure what I’m going to do right this second because my car JUST stopped working and I didn’t have time to write a dissertation before I called you for help” thing.
I saw you drive by me Christina while I was walking back to work so my ride could pick me up! You snickered. I saw it!
No. I don’t know what’s wrong with it.
What does it sound like? Not sure. It sounds bad to me.
Mac had an update yesterday. I captured the window like I usually do and was ready to post it to the website and then…
…I forgot all about it.
I’ll post the details below after I get home. I’m still working and stuff.
Update: The Pic…

*** My dad shot the video this morning ***

Another few days, another update.
Although I can read the update summary as well as anyone else, I’m still not sure what this update actually does.
I’m sure it’s important though.
I’m sure you’ve all heard of “beer goggles” but here comes something really cool and really necessary for a few folks. (I used to need this but since I don’t really even drink an occasional adult beverage anymore, it doesn’t apply to me.)
If you have Google Mail or GMail, this option can be turned on inside of your preference settings. It’s under “Labs.”

The idea is that before you are allowed to send an email, you must first answer a few math questions. Obviously, if you’ve had too much to drink you will not be able to answer them and can avoid sending an email that you possibly shouldn’t.
Here’s Tekzilla’s Patrick Norton explaining the feature.
